The 2018 World Series of BBQ, better known as the American Royal, kicks off next week. Redneck Scientific took home a third place overall and a Reserve Grand Championship in 2017. The two-day competition is split between an Invitational competition composed solely of Grand Championship winner. All teams who have earned a Grand Championship in a sanctioned KCBS competition is invited to compete in Kansas City at the Royal.
in 2017, 129 teams competed in the Invitational and Redneck Scientific came home with a second-place runner-up (aka third overall).
The next day is the Open competition. Any team who wants to toss their hat in the ring can compete in the Royal Open. Last year, more than 400 teams competed, and Redneck Scientific came home with a Reserve Grand Championship.
Redneck Scientific is back competing in 2018. It’s a two-day haul from Johnston County, North Carolina to Kansas City, but to Jerry and Roxanne, it’s worth event.
“It’s such an amazing event being on the field of the Kansas Speedway,” said Jerry. “The competition is fierce, but it’s a fun crowd and we always get to see teams and friends.”
